Another successful event introducing Chinese Medicine to more people! On Sunday, 5/19, I joined forces with Pamper & Play in Westwood to offer my Cafe Acupuncture Mini Health Consultations to moms.
Like at the Club MomMe event the previous weekend, most of these moms had never seen a Physician of Chinese Medicine, so I educated them on what I do and what the medicine could do for them and their children. Over 15 moms came by to my table to have their tongue and pulse checked and answered a few questions. (To those of you new to Chinese Medicine, we practitioners feel the pulses on both wrists and look at the tongue [ehhh, stick out your tongue please!] because the feel, rate and strength of the pulse and the coloring, coating and size of the tongue all tell us what is going on with your internal organs as well as flow, obstruction, and strength of your Qi and Blood. Ancient doctors couldn't rely on sophisticated medical technologies, so they looked at signs and signals of the body to ascertain the state of health. In Chinese Medicine, feeling the pulse and looking at the tongue is one of the hallmarks of assessing the health of the person.)
Based on the tongue, pulse and answers to the questions, I could give them a very quick overview of what I felt and saw happening in their bodies. The moms were so surprised by what I could tell them just by feeling their pulses - as if I were a mind reader, because I was telling them things only they knew to be true about their health and emotional conditions.
I gave them tips on how to stay healthy physically and emotionally, so hopefully this mini session can be a seed for these moms to check in with their bodies from time to time and do what's necessary to start a journey of healthy living, or continue on their path of healthy living.
This is my wish - that people become more aware of their bodies, and by doing so, take proactive steps if they feel something is amiss. And that Chinese Medicine is one tool they can use to get their health back, or if they are already healthy, how to optimize their health. We Physicians of Chinese Medicine are here to help people lead long, healthy, empowered lives.
