For an iced 24 oz version:
o Lychee Puree (Fresh or canned. If canned, drain water and blend lychee in a blender)
o Lychee fruit for garnish
o Hibiscus Tea (aka the Mexican agua fresca, Jamaica)
- You can brew your own hibiscus tea using hibiscus flowers found in latino markets. Rinse the flowers. Bring water to a boil and steep the flowers until the water is a dark red color. May be repeated one or two more times with fresh batch of boiled water until the water no longer becomes stained with the red hibiscus color. Alternately, you can buy hibiscus tea and steep until the water is a dark red color.
o Sugar - or a sweetener to your liking
1. Fill cup with ice
2. In a separate cup (or martini shaker) add 1.5 cups of Hibiscus, 1 tablespoon of Simple Sugar, and 1/4 cup of Lychee Puree
3. Shake or Stir
4. Pour over ice and serve with a Lychee fruit garnish
The drink turns purple from the red hibiscus and milky lychee.
Hibiscus can help to maintain normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels, is a natural diuretic, and is high in vitamin C levels. Consuming foods and drinks high in vitamin C can help to stave off colds and flu. Lychee nourishes the liver, calms the mind, and is a blood booster.
Have a Happy and Safe Halloween everyone!
